Wilderness Lodge and Villas – 2012 Holiday Decorations

When you think of spending the holidays at Walt Disney World you may want warm weather and sunshine. Well, we do too. But we also like the ambience of a place where it might snow, a place that feels warm and cozy. Is there any better resort than Wilderness Lodge and Villas to give you Florida warmth and sunshine along with that winter lodge feeling with the fireplaces and overall architecture? I think not…

The one decoration that I do not “get” nor have I asked any cast member about is the portico decoration as you drive up…

If you know, please tell me. 🙂

But when you walk into the lobby, it just screams a holiday getaway, especially the fireplace and huge wreath.

Although I prefer the fireplace, it is not the focal point. The focal point is a 4 story tall Christmas tree that is gorgeous. The thing is though, it is so popular and with a Disney photographer taking family photos, it does lose some of the holiday charm. If we were only late night people. I understand that it can be quite peaceful in the lobby around the tree between midnight and 2 a.m. (before the overnight cleaning goes into high gear).

Every Walt Disney World Resort has theming to their decorations and Wilderness Lodge and Villas are no different. Who knew that part of an antler would make a nice addition to a wreath?

As with all the resorts there are numerous smaller trees spread around for you to enjoy.

I wish the next photo came out better. It was shot on the same visit using same camera settings. The only difference is that we were next door in the Villas (DVC for Wilderness Lodge). The entry and lounge at the Villas may be the best kept secret at Walt Disney World. I was thrilled to find that this year they had a large tree and it was closer to the fireplace than the Wilderness Lodge tree can ever be. So I found a quiet spot with a fireplace and big tree to enjoy. As Sandy might say, “it was lovely”. Too bad the photo is so poor…

There were two chairs for nora and me in front of the fireplace. Grin…

Another photo I wish was better… There was a wreath in the Carrolton Railroad Lounge main window. The colors in the wreath paired well with the window seat fabric. The size of the wreath and window worked well. Maybe I liked it because I was so thrilled with the quiet (no people) and having a tree and fire “just for us”. I could have sat at that window seat reading and drinking cocoa for a few hours… Maybe I’ll make time, one day…

Hope you enjoy a fire with a special someone during this season.
